Poetry Slam

So I participated in the Poetry Slam this past week at the local coffee café joint. The place that hosts it is, Fire Creek Coffee, and they make their own coffee stuff. Anyways, the Poetry Slam Season has begun and I aim to read new poetry and to at least win a few rounds.

I read a new unedited piece and I found myself wanting to change a lot to the poem, especially the title. I had at titled "Requirements to be Navajo", but the poem has two themes, one is what is Navajo and the other is all these physical looks makes me look Mexican, I know it's difficult to understand it, but I will have the final version up and ready to read soon.

The link to the video is me reading the unedited version, needless to say that this poem has gone through at least 4-5 drafts. I would like to read the final draft at the Slam. Will see how that goes.

Besides the poetry, I noticed that I need to look at the audience more and work on memorization. That's a tough one for me though, memorization. Once I get that down then I know I can slay this competition.

The other 14 poets were good and they were veterans in this mix and they were awesome. One day I will be as good they are. But these things takes time.

So I hope that you'll enjoy the video and until the next post, be safe and stay creative.
