Open Mic at a Local Bar

So this past Wednesday, July 12th, was the Open Mic at a local bar. They are for musicians and spoken word. Now I know that I participated in the 2nd session of the Poetry Slam and at the Juniper Reading, but stage fright is a thing for me that will always be there.
Funny though because I took Drama 101 and Advanced Drama in High School. That was 10+ years ago.
Never mind that, it was more nerve wrecking this time because I went alone this time. After my friends encouraged me to just do it.... I did. I quickly threw somethings together and grabbed my things, called Uber and went downtown. I made it just in time, with 10 minutes to spare, I signed up and had a couple of drinks to ease my nerves.
Six people, including me, signed up for this event. Only 2 of which were poets(again including me), the rest were covers and such and I listened to each one, trying to gather my scattered nerves to gutsy up and walk to the stage.
I waited for my name to be called, I texted one of my friends that waiting for my name to be called is like waiting to be called at the Indian Health Care Center on the rez. LOL!. You know it's inevitable, yet your hands are sweaty and you can't help but feel anxious, like it's your first time seeing the doctor.
So I sat there posting like a mad lunatic on Facebook and messaging a close friend. One by one the people sang songs and shared their poems, I was still waiting for my name to be called.
And it was time. I finished off my beer and took to the stage, asked the MC to record for me and did my thing. Below is my video.
It was a good crowd and I'm glad that I went to the Open Mic event. Practice is good and I will be doing more of these kind of events.
Until the next reading. Later. Keep the Creativity Alive and Kicking!
